Words that weave worlds

My journey as an author

Alan Gurwitz was born in a displaced persons camp in postwar Germany and raised in Brooklyn. His early life was shaped by the lingering aftermath of World War II and the stories—spoken and unspoken—that surrounded those who survived it.

His writing is rooted in history, memory, and the moral questions that follow trauma. He is drawn to characters living between identities, carrying secrets, and trying to build ordinary lives under extraordinary emotional weight.

Who Is Anna Weiss?

Historical Novel

Who Is Anna Weiss? is Alan Gurwitz’s first novel. Set in the years following World War II, it tells the story of a young woman who arrives in Brooklyn carrying a name that may not be her own—and a past she cannot confront.

As Anna attempts to build a new life, fragments of memory surface and subtle suspicions begin to form around her. The line between survival and truth grows increasingly fragile, forcing her to live between who she claims to be and who she may once have been.

Rooted in postwar Jewish history, the novel explores identity, displacement, and the quiet moral weight of secrecy. Who Is Anna Weiss? is a story about what comes after survival—when the war is over, but its shadow remains.

Available in paperback on Amazon.

An enthralling tale of mystery and discovery, set in a world waiting to be explored.
